Don't Harass And Discriminate GAYs/ LESBIANs – UHURU Kenyatta Tells Kenyans Through CNN.
President Uhuru Kenyatta told Kenyans on Sunday not to harass gays and lesbians because they have equal rights to protection under the law.

In an exclusive interview with CNN, Uhuru asked Kenyans to respect members of the gay and lesbian community and asked the public not to discriminate against them in any way.

"I will not allow people to persecute any individuals, or beat and torture them," Uhuru said.

When asked on whether he still maintains that gay rights is a non issue to Kenyans, Uhuru referred to a press briefing at State House with US President Barack Obama, who visited in July, saying to Kenyans it was a non-issue " at that point in time"

"We have to understand that these are processes and they take time," Uhuru said, restating that it is a non-issue for Kenyans, whom he said have more pressing matters to deal with.

"And this is where I am saying we have to get synergies. You are not going to create the US, Great Britain or Netherlands in Kenya, or in Nigeria or Senegal overnight." he said.

He concluded by saying that although gays have rights, majority of Kenyans do not wish to legalise gay rights 'for now'.

"Whatever society you come from, the principal aim is that you must give the people you know their right to choose," Uhuru said.
